With the new iPad finally released, the excitement is now slowly sinking and people are pondering if the new iPad is actually worth buying or should they go for another model available in the market. In the context, I have compared the new iPad with another tablet which looks quite promising- the Sony tablet S. Read on to know more about these tablets.
Network And Connectivity
The Sony tablet S comes only in Wi-Fi models and hence there is no way you can access to internet on the go if Wi-Fi is not available. The iPad on the other hand comes with both Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + 4G LTE model and is priced accordingly.
Both the tablets come with Bluetooth for connectivity. While the Sony tablet S comes with a rather dated Bluetooth version 2.1, the new iPad comes with the latest Bluetooth version 4.0 for faster data transfer speeds.
Operating System
The Sony tablet S comes with the Android operating system. However the version packed with the Sony tablet S is the old Android version 3.2 Gingerbread whereas the latest trend in the market is v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Android Operating system provides users with access to thousands of FREE applications as well as paid applications for just about anything. The Apple iPad on the other hand comes with the iOS 5.1 Operating system found in the iPad 2.
Processor
Apple comes with a more powerful A5X processor with a 1GHz speed and a quad core GPU which will ensure you a smooth operation as well as great gaming experience. The Sony tablet S on the other hand comes with a dated 1 GHZ Tegra 2 processor which doesnít even match some of other tablets in the market with Tegra 3 processors.
Display Screen
Sony tablet S and the new iPad have a similar display size. At 9.4î and 1280 x 800 resolution, the Sony tablet S has one of the best screen resolutions among tablets. The Apple however were still able to defeat the Sony tablet with a whooping 2048 x 1536 in the 9.7î screen.
Camera
Both the tablets have a resolution of 5 Mp. However the Sony tablet S can take videos at only 720 pixels whereas the new iPad can shoot videos at a high resolution of 2048 pixels which is currently the highest among tablet pcs.
Memory
The Sony tablet S is available in 16 GB, 32 GB variants and comes with an external SD card slot and supports upto 32 GB. The Apple iPad on the other hand comes in 16GB, 32 GB and 64 GB variants but does not have any external memory card slot. This may be a point if you like to carry all your data and multimedia with you everywhere you go.
Battery
The new iPad comes with the highest power battery with 43 Wh battery and hence can be used for watching high resolution videos on the high display screen or browsing the internet on the high speed 4G LTE network for 10 continuous hours. The Sony on the other hand is able to provide only 5 hours of constant use.
