How To Get The UBA Africard Visa Debit Card

The UBA Debit Visa Card called Africard is another good option to make payments online from Nigeria. Some call it UBA Africard Credit Card but it’s a Debit card. I recently talked about how to get the Zenith Bank Prepaid Debit Card and what you can do with it but later just walked into a UBA branch to make a transaction few days later when I saw people requesting for the card. I got interested and walked up to the customer care guy to ask what the card was meant for. He told me it’s a credit card that you can use to make payments on the web, withdraw cash at ATM and make payments at PoS terminals.

This is great I think but I was not convinced of it’s wide acceptability on the internet because I once got the GTBank Naira Mastercard like that and it was rejected in all attempts I made to use it online. So, I asked the guy how much it costs and he told me I can start with as low as N2,000. Well I can gamble with this, I though, so I took out three N1000 notes and gave the guy but he rejected and instead asked me for a Utility bill (PHCN Bill), recognized ID (National I’d card, International Passport or Driver’s Licence) and a passport-sized photograph. I quickly rushed to my house to pick the PHCN bill and produced that with my Driver’s Lisence and passport-sized photograph. He gave me a form to fill and that s the beginning of the process to get the UBA debit Visa card called Africard.

Note: if the PHCN bill does not bear your surname, take the most recent receipt you got for paying your rent with you instead.

Go through the form and fill it carefully. You will get to a point where you will be asked to choose services to disable amongst ATM, Web and PoS, be careful not to disable Web because that’s the purpose I think you want to get it. Except if you have a different mission. I will even advice not to strike any option out. Also, you will be asked the type of card you want.

There are two options there but if you want to get your card that day, don’t choose the personalized option. The personalized simply means that you want your name on the card and this might take up to a week to process but the unpersonalized one gets ready immediately but it won’t bear your name on it. Instead, it will just bear “UBA Cardholder” like in the one above. I’m not a big fan of the post I wrote about how to get a free Payoneer Mastercard because it can take up to three months before it arrives in Nigeria.

After they have confirmed the information you filled in the form, you will be given the account number associated with your card. Pay into this account and it will be credited almost immediately. Now you can start to use your UBA Africard Debit Card Online. Getting a Credit Card in Nigeria to make payment online is still very difficult but these are very good solutions at this time to get your own credit card in Nigeria.

Before I forget, I have used the card to pay for Hostgator hosting as well as Google Adwords and Facebook ads. These are just the few sites I’ve used it. There are also some Hosting you can buy with Liberty Reserve if you can’t get any of the Debit Cards available for some reasons, especially getting a utility bill or a recognized means of identification.

Try to get your own today and give me feedback here.

Hope this helps you! Regards!
