A twitter survey done to determine the growing social media presence of chief executives of states in Nigeria has placed the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola on top of all Nigeria Governors.
According to the survey report conducted and released by ThinQThanQ, the research and database unit of financialtechnology, one of the Africa’s leading financial services technology publication, Governor Fashola, popularly known as BRF emerged as the governor with the highest social media presence in Nigeria.
The survey according to financialtechnology, was made using the Twitter presence of governors and the rankings were given according to the number of followers each governor commands.
The Statistics [Number of Twitter Followers]
As at the time, financialtechnology published the survey, Fashola had a total of 58,935, I did a check again to re-confirm and discovered an increment of nearly 2000, which currently leaves him with 60,085 followers, while his counterpart in Ekiti state came after with about 3,943 followers, other Governors who whose twitter accounts were surveyed had less than 54,000. Coming after the Ekiti State is the Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, who came third with about 3,883 followers.
Governor of Ondo State, Segun Mimiko, came fourth with 1,783 followers while his Rivers State counterpart, Rotimi Amaechi, came fifth with 1,650 followers.
Number of Tweets
The result obtained from the survey revealed that Fayemi has the highest number of tweets (1,989), followed closely by Fashola with 1,701 tweets. Amosun followed with 1,063 tweets, Uduaghan followed with 871 tweets, Ajimobi and Imoke have 471 and 430 tweets respectively.
Overall Statistics of Nigerian Governors that Have Twitter Account
The result released by financialtechnology had it that of the 37 states governors/heads including the Federal Capital Territory, only 23 have Twitter accounts. They include the top five earlier highlighted above (Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, and Rivers) then Cross River, Kwara, Imo, Delta, Enugu, Bayelsa, Nassarawa, Benue, Akwa Ibom, Plateau, Gombe, Anambra state governors as well as the FCT minister of state.
Other 14 state governors are not on Twitter. About 90 per cent of these consist mostly governors from the Northern states and the Middle Belt.
Party Status on Social Media Presence
Speaking from a neutral ground, the results and statistics above shows that of all the 37 states heads in Nigeria, only but few of them are really utilizing the the social media platform.
