Various startups keep propping up promising to give LinkedIn a big run for their money in the professional networking side of social media. One of the latest kids on the block is Branchout and they smartly launch on the world’s largest social network Facebook.

Branchout, which touts itself as the largest professional network on Facebook promises to do three things. It provides access to over 2 million jobs and more than 20,000 internship positions. It positions as a place to get introduced and connected with other people and offers effective tools for recruiting and sales. this much it reveals on its homepage.

Branchout makes the same smart move many other platforms have made in the immediate past and that is leveraging on a big social giant like Facebook. Branchout seeks to make Facebook a place for serious professional networking and not just social chats and networking.

Branchout seeks to offer recruiters and hiring companies a creative way to tap into the huge possibilities provided by Facebook to get in front of qualified persons who might be interested in the vacancies they advertise. Definitely launching as an app on Facebook has helped the startup as it now boasts millions of users.

How Branchout Started
In June 2010, Marini, the founder and CEO of SuperFan, received a call from a friend asking if he knew anyone at a particular company. Marini knew he had a mutual connection, but couldn’t remember the person specifically. He was unable to find the connection by searching on Facebook and asked if SuperFan’s Director of Engineering could build a widget to accomplish the task. Marini saw potential in the application and pivoted SuperFan’s team to begin development on the product.

Branchout’s growth has been impressive as the application now has over 10 million active users with over 400 million professional profiles.
