New Electricity Tariff Introduced in Nigeria

The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced it is going to introduce new electricity tariff on June 1, 2012.

According to NERC’s Chairman, Dr Sam Amadi during a meeting with electricity generation companies in Nigeria
the new tariff is tagged Multi-Year-Tariff-Order and would not affect low income earners.

According to him, the tariff will attract more investors, because power generation will increase.

He said that the commission had already offered licences to more than 50 independent power producers, as part of efforts to improve power generation and distribution in the country.

Engaging more power producers in the sector would ensure competition, boost quality transmission and efficiency in services to Nigerians.
