Soon you'll be able to translate comments on Facebook Pages, no matter what language they're written in. I was going through some articles when I stumbled on this news, and so decided to share it with you.
Facebook has recently introduced a new tool that makes instant inline language translations appear with a single click. This means that you no longer need to worry about your friends who are English speakers as this tool now provides a solution to that.
The new Facebook Translation tool is quite different from the Google popular translation tool. According to the article I read from Mashable, the new Facebook tool is powered by powered by Microsoft Bing and it's programmed to work on individual posts on Facebook Pages, including comments.
How it Applies to Users
With this tool, if you are an English speaker reading a Facebook public Page and encounter a comment in Spanish, you’ll see a Translate button next to it, letting you click to see it translated into a pop-out window in English. See the screen-shot below
An additional feature that has been integrated in the new Facebook translation tool is the feature that lets bilingual users enter a human (and often more accurate) translation in that pop-out window. If enough other users vote positively on the accuracy of a human translation, it will replace the one from Bing each time the Translate button is clicked. Settings for the human translations can be managed by page administrators using a “manage translations” link underneath posts on pages they manage.
Who Can Use This Tool for Now?
According to the Facebook Journalist Program Manager (and former Mashable community manager) Vadim Lavrusik the new feature works now only on Facebook Pages, but not on Facebook Profiles yet. So all Facebook profile accounts are still kept pending.
Cheers!
